Common furnace problems

Before you call

Five checks that take two minutes

Set the thermostat to Heat and 5 degrees above room temperature.

Check the furnace switch and your breaker panel.

Replace the air filter if you can’t see light through it.

Make sure the gas valve and any vents are open and unblocked.

Check that nothing is blocking the furnace room door or return grille.

If you smell gas

Leave the house, don’t touch switches, and call your gas utility’s emergency line. Then call us. Never relight a pilot you can smell gas near.

Carbon monoxide alarms should be on every level and replaced every 7 years.
